Windy City Playhouse South opened in January 2, 2019 at 2229 S. Michigan. The venue hosted the immersive hit SOUTHERN GOTHIC, which finally closed on October 27th, 2019, after over 22 months and 600 performances. Also in 2019, the Playhouse South saw the Chicago premiere of EVERY BRILLIANT THING, a critically acclaimed run, starring Rebecca Spence, which ran through December 15th. As of 2020, the Playhouse's leadership is focused on programming at our flagship venue, on Irving Park Rd. There are no immediate plans for future programming in our South Loop space.

The Space

This 2,000 square foot, black box space provides an intimate setting for immersive theatrical productions. 2229 S Michigan is also soon be to LIPS, a high-end, drag dinner theater which opened in the summer of 2019.

The Neighborhood

The venue is located in the heart of Motor Row, a quickly developing district in the greater South Loop area. Just steps from McCormick Place, the Wintrust Arena, and their adjoining hotels, Windy City Playhouse stands to welcome both Chicagoans and tourism alike for one-of-a-kind theatrical experiences.

"We are eager to continue sharing the story of ‘Southern Gothic’ and its uniquely immersive presentation with more audiences in this 'pop-up' location. Meanwhile, we will continue to bring new productions into our flagship venue on Irving Park Rd. for our existing patrons and subscribers to enjoy. Two locations also allows us to employ double the number of Chicago theater artists, something we deeply value in this creatively rich city."
