Most theaters are “dark” on Monday evenings. But at the Playhouse, we’ve decided to use this night off from our mainstage programming to give our neighbors one more chance to enjoy a night out with great art.
In the true style of a mixer, we’re throwing a lot of things together: kicking off the night with an open mic hour, then offering headliners curated by our artistic staff. We’ll keep the fun going at the Playhouse bar, featuring our signature craft cocktails.
Friends of the BogMonday, May 7th • 8:00pm Friends of the Bog combines the raucous folk-punk of DIY bands like The Violent Femmes and Neutral Milk Hotel with the gentle parlour sound of classic Americana outfits like The Carter Family and The Weavers. Founded by six real-life friends in the winter of 2015, the band quickly progressed from playing variety shows around Chicago to recording their debut EP with Steve Albini. Their thoughtful, evocative lyrics are balanced by intricately arranged songs and energetic, theatrical live performances. Friends of the Bog has headlined shows at Schuba’s, Martyr’s, Beat Kitchen, and Quencher’s, among others. Last year, the band released Lyra, their first full-length album. Join the Friends for their Chicago homecoming May 7th, fresh off their east coast tour. Learn more: https://www.friendsofthebog.com/epk
